Does anybody remember this Undertale character? His name is Togore Dreemur. The middle child of Asgore and Toriel Dreemur, and brother to Asriel and Chara Dreemur. He is the only child of the Dreemurs that survived and is still alive in Undertale and can be seen in Metaton Resort. He doesn’t have much plot significance but that doesn’t stop him from chilling. You’re supposed to understand the quirked up monsters but then I realize my RPG addled brain is like “why waste time with bullets when I can just get a big number to attack” and I realize a pokemon trainer would probably grind the underground to dust without a second thought and that’s not what I’m going for because doing no mercy is tedious and there’s a lot of ways to accidentally end the route.


In the Undertale Art Book, Frisk's early sprite is called MainChara.png. Toby Fox commented, "Originally this sprite had a black outline, but it didn't show up very well on the game's numerous black backgrounds... Everyone says the protagonist's sprite looks terrible. That's right. If it looks too good, you'll have a different expectation."

An interesting factor that got completely thrown out by the data mining for the name of the first human was that Toby fox’s initial answer to the fallen child’s name was “your own name”. Essentially, the normal thing a person does when naming their protag in an RPG unless there’s already a canon default name. This plays into my theorizing about how this naming thing connects to deltarune since the original name for the player vessel was thrown out to lock into Kris’s name instead. One of undertale’s inspirations, moon rpg, was based on having a lot of the player’s actions being basically them fixing the world after they were thrown into it as a monster NPC after previously only playing the game as a regular JRPG. Townspeople were commenting on how weird the JRPG protag was, whenever the protag is spotted they’re slaying monsters and it’s treated as a horror scene, and generally there’s a bit of emphasis on “this is the good way, and that’s the way that’s weird if you consider if the people in the games being played were like, actual people.” I think it’s sort of interesting to consider the naming thing as a factor of player morality and accountability for their actions if it’s their own name they put down when they’re doing true pacifist or taking the route of merciless instead of just going with “oh yeah, uh, Chara did that, not me,” thus turning what was probably just like, a funny little Easter egg for the name Character into like this perpetual boogeyperson of evil and malicious intent. This is because I fully believe in the narrator theory and also Chara appearing only at the end of the Undertale equivalent of the weird route to say “it’s thanks to watching you that I understand the world is full of violence” sort of implies that there wasn’t a possession going on fully and more like Chara was the equivalent of an MMO leech soaking up exp while Frisk carried the adventure.
