This will be my second ever nuzlocke! I had one with Emerald that I failed so I forgot to count it. Idk a thing for level caps so chances are I'll be doing this just based on my memory for X! That's a dangerous statement in itself. As of 9/1, I've begun! My current team is a Froakie, Litleo, and Pansear. I unfortunately lost my route 1 pidgey catch to a crit from a bunnelby.

Not even an hour in and I lost my first Pokémon to a crit from a bunnelby RIP Daisy Short lived.

Feels like the hardest part of this will be that i dont remember any of the X run and that I’m not sure when this monkey learns a fire move which I’ll need for later with the 1st gym If he lives then i won’t get charizard maybe? This is a fascinating thing because usually people play nuzlocke for like emotional attachment and here I am like I need to max out the Amie bonus ASAP so my mons don’t die horribly/ exp bonus? Something like lefyba can turn info a threat when it runs confuse ray and comet punch

The funniest part of XY to me is the fact that I’m still using old guides from a decade ago now to help myself in terms of everything but battle information Apparently i heard there is a run killer furfrou though The only things worth using for outfits are all things literally in Lumiose city that are all the most expensive and therefore like impossible to get for a nuzlocke unless I make this like a Lumiose city run where I spend the rest of the game just in lumiose

The road to lumiose

Went back to a store and said “all the stuff is the same” because last time I was here was also Sunday. lol. Today is training! Totally different from monotype running. Aiming for like… 20. Or like 15, idk.

Hardest part is figuring out like what’s overkill because I’m going at this blind past my previous run because that was months ago I don’t even remember who the second gym is Grant?

No, that’s fossils… Considering that I have both a fire monkey and pyroar and mono fire seems dumb so I might go with Bulbasaur.

Combee can farm encounters with sweet scent and honey gathering XY aren’t hard games… I’d get it if this was like withering X… Confusion and comet punch is dangrrous.

Kalos having like a screenshot feature outside of the photo guy might be useful because like why so many fountains and locations that would be wonderful photos but totally denied

Bit annoying how lumiose is so limited the first time in There’s fake lore to this story, and in this story, this new player character is lysandere’s son but neither of them know the family relationship since the guy is blonde

Diantha has gotta be the most like nothing character in terms of XY having nothing characters and like I’d love to know how she became friends with Lysandere and her full thoughts because like her philosophy opposes Lysandere for the sake of the narrative but like aside from the alien rumor she should’ve been like a pokestar cameo or something so at the very least we could see her being like balancing her life as both a champion and movie star People can be immortalized through things like movies and audio readings and books as long as everything is preserved. Also the proZD video really is the epitome of Lysandere, the music being like that doesn’t help either You could not get more blatantly evil if you tried in a pokemon game aside from Ghestis

And now it’s time to get to route 5 Should I use the gift lucario? Idk…it’s a nuzlocke. I feel like I should stick to my own catches. Crazy how i played through X the first time and went “the pop in for lumiose is pretty noticeable” but now that I’ve played Sword I’m like “it wasn’t actually that bad.”

Route 5: another Mon on the ban list Number 2! A horde of gulpin? I knocked out the entire horde with incinerate. Okay, no encounter. This seems to be the running trend here.

…does using sweet scent/honey get me nothing but hoards for this route? Okay so I might not count this one, let me try to do it without the hoards, if I knock it out though then it won’t count, alright? Getting bad luck, nothing but the ban list roster…

Combee emotes with all of its pieces… If I saw a shiny I’d have the shiny rule but I’ve never seen a shiny outside of stuff like catching tutorials or the period where I’ve got no poke balls because I’ve got no dex. Like a lot of runs of GSC GBA games have had me run into like shiny ratatta and caterpie. Oh, and that one save where I have a shiny onix now. I think that’s the only shiny I’ve ever gotten in a game that wasn’t the red gyarados or a random trade that was likely genned.

Okay we have a pokemon but furfrou is proving to be a test of patience.

I’ll come back next Sunday, maybe. Feels like that’s the way this has been going.

World’s slowest nuzlocke continues. So the current team is… looking a bit uh. Stupid. Two fire types, a combee that’s male, and a sentret. In the pc box, I have a Ducklett. Plus snorlax and the furfrou. I’m gonna do some backtracking to see if I missed some trainers. Not the palace though, there’s apparently a double battle known for killing runs. Me and my monkey that’s been voted as the least liked pokemon of all time and now I’m gonna be best friends with the monkey and in the dex entries it says it likes to help people Not knowing the level cap and I’m probably gonna be like in the 30s before the 2nd gym because I keep using the battle mansion to get money I could use the berry farm for free berries but that would involve actually learning that and I’m pretty sure it involves playing daily and you can clearly see by my play dates I am not doing that If up next is a cave, I’m probably just catching a zubat. I also like zubat. I mean, it’s literally called the zubat roost. I’m glad the skates exist but I completely forget you can walk regularly in the game. Pokemon Amie is good because I can give my pokemon hi fives and pet them. Don’t forget super training exists too. In theory, XY is probably one of the easiest nuzlocke games since you also get free Megas and balance is nonexistent with them. I’m considering the gift lucario this time around, a thing with XY I noted in my last playthrough is the hardest part is the beginning and the difficulty drops as soon as you get a mega evolution loaded in because they last the entire runtime and the balance was not designed for “hit button to win” unlike the totem mimikyu terror. You can really tell that XY is the first 3D gamefreak game, the dungeon layout of glittering cave has 2D layout with a 3D camera for the first part. Caught: Rocky (Rhyhorn) I’m bad with names. Could write an entire essay’s worth on how much I dislike team flare from a narrative standpoint but I feel like they’re the worst written team pre teams being designed to be red herrings I used rock smash and I got an old amber Thinking about ride pokemon, isn’t it wild that there’s only one game in the series you can actually visibly ride your own pokemon with different variants and it’s LGPE? every other time it’s for rent. I’ve boxed Sting now because I feel like he’s got no weight. Now I’ve got a free slot. So the first pokemon you can get to mega evolve outside of the gift ones is the aerodactyl… cool. Added: Volcanicus (Tyrunt) Not a huge fan of the type overlap with me having a dragon, a ground rock, and a rock dragon, but I’m sure once I get to the next town I’ll figure out a better team setup. Powercreep does exist and the way you can tell is a pokemon regarded as the boss of the 1st gym (nosepass) now just casually chills out on a trainer’s team XY is beginner friendly in the form of “the first 3ds pokemon game.” Okay,sending out Rhyhorn first with rock smash because water won’t do much and amaura immediately outsped RIP Rocky Why did I think any of that scenario was going to work when frograider was clearly the better choice My brain farted This tyrunt has hands stop flinching my Pokemon Route 10’s encounter: it’s dead. It would’ve been an elektrike but bite is a strong move. “What are you, some kind of trainer prodigy?” Always have been. Kind of wild how XY’s plot involves sacrificing pokemon on the stone pillars on route 10 for their life force (infinite energy) to power a death weapon and it’s sort of treated as just a weird spot by the trainers there because the history was basically forgotten. Also a colress mention on this route, before in cyllage in the hotel Rowan was mentioned. Considering that ZA is Lumiose only, do you think the trains will lead anywhere or will they end up shut down and kiloude ignored? Route 11 catch: A WHIRLWIND BLEW ME AWAY Alright, that’s all the time I have. I’m gonna go play some animal crossing new leaf. No progress aside from hauling to lumiose currently because last time my random haircut sucked Furfrou has more hairstyles than guys do in this game and the clothes options are… somewhat limited. So far it’s just been recolors of things I already have. The girls had a lot more. Trained a bit at battle mansion and greninja has arrived I also evolved Flint to the number one least voted for favorite pokemon He just saved my behind from a fraxure KOing greninja though so he’s alright in my book I think playing with zero memory is more dangerous than hardcore because I’m going to the fighting gym with a greninja that’s overleveled and if it dies the run is cooked If ivysaur feels like evolving it would be nice, right Well, guess what happened immediately after the battle! When going to hear from the alola guy touring here, makes me wonder when tf XY is supposed to take place due to ORAS retcons plus the fact he mentions an Alolan battle facility. Only one there is the battle tree. Huh. Every single double battle has me fearful. Onto reflection cave It’s a carbink! Ah. The leech seed and poison powder combo from leafgreen returns. Caught: Carby I should probably cure the poison.

XY is kind of a game that has most things done better by the games that follow, you can tell that this is GF's first attempt at a 3D pokemon game that wasn't just passed off as a spinoff to a different company . It's kind of like a sandwich where it's an alright sandwich, but you can get better sandwiches. It kind of pissed me off, but I'd go back and eat/play it again because it was a game that a lot of people did enjoy as their first outing. I had zero expectations for it and it didn't reach them, but that's on me for never backtracking because of the plot going "come on, this way, shoo, shoo."

it's not a bad game, it's just kind of the most pokemon game ever if that makes any sense. like it's just a pokemon game where most things it does are basically done in other games with better execution or refinement so outside of a few places and themes and areas there's not much to remember. i'd rather play a bad game and be like "hey remember that time that stupid thing happened" rather than my memories of X being completely blurry outside of that one period of time where i wanted to chuck my 3ds. Lumiose city can carry an entire game for ZA though, I can attest to that based on how packed the place is. Where most gen games have like some reason to like revisit towns or maybe a single NPC that’s a bit quirky I can’t think of any notable place in XY outside of Lumiose not counting the mushroom town and snowbelle. It kind of feels like a game with a checklist on things to do that is hampered by me not playing online with other people at release time so I’ll never have the full experience because pokemon is a game meant for friends and i am alone.

This is a pokemon game that is like a 3/5 or maybe like a 5/10 where you go… yep… that’s a pokemon game. It gets a C on a scale that would be like, F to A. I think of that moment I got really mad and then I go “eh.” I really did say I wanted to enjoy it but outside of the opening period where I was like “wow, new adventure!” I had nothing. And that’s probably the best way to describe my first X playthrough. I’m gonna go play Pokémon sword now. Y nuzlocke after that so maybe in like September.

a lot of the postgame stuff is reliant on me actually beating the rival in that fight so what i need to do is find a nice place to train and grind up to my 60s because even if i went to the e4 now everyone is in mid 30s at best minus benson. It's been between training and grabbing ribbons in town. I like anistar city’s memory girl and the character having a little cold breath. I changed to a colder outfit for that spot. Mamoswines the precursor to ride pokemon . Huh??? There’s a whole optional dungeon I missed?! This is a dirty hotel. Flying press looks absurd, I’m glad I brought hawlucha on the team. Mizu evolved after I finished fighting that punk. She grew up so quick, I still remember her being all small when I got her and how enthusiastic she was in Amie as wartortle

I gotta go find Randos in Lumiose?! forgot about TMs but let’s load em up I got sidetracked by random stuff I skipped and like outside of me revisiting them there’s no need for some extra stuff right?

Anyways I wonder how much of XY I’m missing out on from never doing the wonder trading stuff. Or being online in general when it was that time period of no one knowing what was in the game before. The corocoro scans and stuff. It’s a lot better to not use fly so I can actually check these places instead of breezing past like I did during my playthrough. I thought a route said bruh way but it was brun way. I only have one dark type so guess to get Xiaoyu to evolve I’ll use literal darkness because I have Yveltal from that probably haunted Y cartridge. Back trying to navigate the huge ass circle of Lumiose and I missed a whole route (route 16) in my first run. It’s so fascinating because I have zero recognition of any of Lumiose or it’s exits. It’s a maze to me all the time.

Battle mansion rematches. watching the anime in one sitting sounds like sisyphus it's more bearable to me if i treat every ash as a separate ash since sometimes when I play I have an episode in the bgx.

I vividly remember the GS space world leaks and how everyone kind of lost their mind over the “new” pokemon and maps. I should go back to just making small pokemon drawings again, it was fun. Thinking about it, it’s kinda crazy how spaceworld leaked twice in different forms plus we got the Diamond and Pearl beta leaks and then there was supposed to be a translation of the first SW demo and then total radio silence. I haven’t checked on team spaceworld in a while so that projects probably dead. Why is this in the Postgame journal? Well, I was working on other stuff too... My life doesn't revolve around pokemon 24/7, even if my website seems very heavily centered on it. I've got other hobbies.

Cleared 7.20 I’m figuring my postgame experience is being punished for never straying off the path as I slowly glacially grind in the battle chateau because I don’t know any other places to train since I never had a reason to go off rails because there was backtracking in the game but I never felt any kind of large incentive unlike in other games based on memory alone. Maybe I’m biased, too harsh since this is GF’s first 3D game and the team was partially split doing BW2 apparently… Kanto has the aides that will give you upgrades at least since I’m playing through kanto and the HMs outside of cut are basically things you need to go out of your way to get with both catching Pokémon and actually finding the aides. Johto has daily events and phone calls and the day night system incentivizes you to plat at different times. Other reigons do their thing, i do not recall right now since im writing this segment at like 2 am, With Kalos though…. The only thing I ever felt like backtracking to was towns to buy clothes. That’s the only thing I backtracked for, honestly… the fashion in this game is pretty good, if you’re playing as a girl, which is pretty much a trend for every gen until gen 9 goes “YOU GET 4 OUTFITS AND TWO ARE SCHOOL UNIFORMS ” I didn’t know there was an entire hotel dungeon I missed until I randomly found it by looking for trainers to fight against.

It’s mostly an on rails experience and now that I’m off the rails and trying to make my own path I realize that I kind of… recall absolutely nothing about Kalos outside of maybe Lumiose, and snowbelle, and that one city with the mushroom tower (Lavarre?). Anistar city had the big diamond thing I thought was related to Diancie but its not. The towns aren’t really doing much. You could say that for a lot of reigons and towns, but I think a game I beat a few months ago should have something slightly more memorable to me. Maybe I’m being unfair though. What other towns do I remember off the top of my head ignoring Kanto? There’s pacildflog with that mirage island guy, there’s rustboro, castelia city, nuvema town, accumula town has the piano girl, there’s the train town with the flute girl, can’t forget about violet city and the bellsprout tower, Ecutreak city’s two towers, goldenrod city, virbank city’s warehouses, snowpoint city… Floroma towns big flower field. Okay, so maybe I’m remembering the music more than the towns and cities themselves memory wise. To be honest, I recall not much of alola either based on memory alone but that was like…8 years ago. I feel myself pruning up.

I never got why XY had a photo feature that was dropped in Sun/Moon. They brought it back in Ultra but I haven’t played that one. The more I look between ultra and OG sumo it really did disillusion me at the age of 16 when I thought we’d be getting stars and instead the third version game was split into two games and I was like “man… is this what it’s like to feel disappointed by a game?” So that’s kinda what made me lose interest even before gen 8. I’m not gonna complain about the exp share because imagining a mid game grind where I have to do every Pokémon individually instead of an even divide would kill me more than this entire process already has been going. battle chateau has some miserable npcs that will be like "what happiness is there in life other than money" now that i've got the postgame team i'm here like "what is fairy type weak to again" The guide i found said to get lucky eggs but where do you get them from the game aside from friend safari chanseys, which I don't have. I think there’s a site set up with friend safaris like a generator because there was one for mystery dungeon codes too…? thankfully there are still 10 year oldgamefaqs guide that tell me its in a hotel i got another daily ribbon too turns out i already had the egg

visiting geosenge post hole is so weird like there's zero interest aside from saying "oh yeah that happened, pretty weird, huh." i got the eevee trade triggered but i don't recall ever speaking to this maid in the hotel does it just randomly trigger? well i lost to wikstrom and that larper knight took ALL my money thankfully in the chateau there's a trainer with audino so i got some exp i'd probably have more fun with random wonder trading but until pretendo is set up it'll never work This place is weird. Kalos is a game of style to me but not much substance. That is because I’m playing a 10 year old game without one of the largest features of it being the online community. I can enter an NPC’s house and maybe two pieces of furniture will have flavor text and I’ll bump into the rest. What I’ve seen of the XY anime so far sometimes does have the opposite effect where I would want to stay in towns to help out these random people instead of seeing Ash do it I’ve always said that pokemon has needed side quests of some sort to keep you around in a town instead of just passing it by with the NPCs that have “quirky” flavor text or maybe more NPCs that talk about current events instead of being like random tutorial dialogue like with the random lumiose cafes I went into. It might be a me thing though, i parsed through earthbound dialogue just fine so far.

Lumiose having a d pad camera is like a personal attack on my eyes because it blurs on the bike every time I turn, Aggghhhhh what is this resident evil ass shot camera I can’t SEE The taxi helps a lot. The gogoat shuttle as well since I can actually think. Why can’t the camera be like that for all of lumiose zoomed out. So Alexa from the press can just auto teleport you in the city That’s the third way I’ve learned this city has a faster way to get by They call me the resturaunt 1 turn wonder because I keep fucking up the food orders

Tbh after not using it the entire game it’s quite distracting to have the big button that’s like “CAUSE APOCALYPSE” sitting casually below the screen My thoughts on Mega Evolutions after an entire game of not playing with one is that it feels like it makes an already casual game more easy because I managed to scrape by the OG game even with a self imposed rule of not buying healing items (items on the ground were fair game though). Maybe if it needed to be recharged or something instead of being an easy press to win button The factor of “am I doing it wrong” only to be led gently by the hand by a random forum post that has the solution because the community was built years ago of people like me struggling is like some kind of thing you’d see in a novel but nope, it’s just people talking about meta game grinding in Pokémon.

The E4 Matchup and Postgame (Cleared 7.20) Did an e4 rematch with malva, chandelure doesn’t have levitate So funny how she was related to Flare and just never came up in the main game and its locked to postgame only They have new lore? Like Drasna’s from Sinnoh. I don’t recall fairy type matchups at all so I’m struggling with guesswork on a pair of keys and the solution for half the battles was “use surf lol” The strategy was really just mega evolve to toss out pokemon I struggled with because my team had no matchups You don’t know how to be champion without using full restore! Imagine if the elite four had their own Megas Like siebold with gyarados which did nothing but spam dragon dance and freak me out Flying press lets the camera be a bit wonky Big fan of the shiny glittering throne but the game makes you auto walk onto the podium if you get too close lol How broken is mega evolution? My mega blastoise managed to take out 4 of diantha’s pokemon at level 62 at yellow health before getting taken down by the goodra

I did it, reclears done Okay now I can do the looker bureau and uh, stuff. Maybe with a mix of this rematch team and the old one? This was the pokemon game that they ever released fully worldwide all at once and I feel like the credits best exemplify what they did want to do by having different lyrics in different languages A lot of games reliant on a global scale phenomena are hard to go back to without that community feeling

Amie is probably the best feature because people have been wanting to be able to play with and feed their pokemon for years But when you pet the sword its eye just widens like 👁️ and I did not like that. The little parts like how pokemon will turn around to give you eye contact if you have their affection leveled high enough in Amie Some of the absurd animation effects for some moves and then others look weak Close combat couldn’t be abstract? Considering other spinoffs though they (3D models) could stand to be more unique instead of like… floaty balloony for some pokemon. Some are fine, others aren’t, colors look a bit desaturated on others, and the lack of sprite art means that pokemon have been stuck in the same position outside of interactions in Amie.

I would play an entire pokemon game based on doing like detective type activities (not detective pikachu) if it was in the vein of like regular pokemon instead of the plot part being shoved into the last 2 missions It’s compelling because its the story of a girl wanting to help out with finances and instead being involved with the remnants of an evil team… where I want to learn more about this huge city and how the people and pokemon live in it especially now that the girl’s a superhero protecting the town where her detective dad couldn’t. Good plot. Malamar is one of those pokemon I’m always going to think is something it’s not. (Water type.) Legend Hunting I really don’t like that swooping pokemon bypass repels. The funniest way to end a postgame run by sheer accident because my pokemon loved me too much so they killed the legendaries of the postgame. What about Articuno- That’s it. Run’s over! I don’t know a thing about competitive so I’m not doing the battle mansion!

I livetweeted the entire experience as I felt my goodwill for the game dry out and get to a point where I couldn’t even take coherent notes. What a baffling swerve. it was approximately around 5 hours ago today that I beat pokemon X and began writing out my final posts for the first chunk of the XY chronicles, in which I played through pokemon X and Y in order to find out the best parts of it. as of janurary to march, it took me around 30 hours to clear pokemon X with my additional rule of no purchased healing items and Kalos pokemon only. This meant my only sources of healing were through the pokemon center, the friends showing up at random times, and random items I found on the ground. These were the end results as it was my first time playing X because it was the one game I missed not counting Johto.

This was my half baked rant to a friend which was how I felt after playing for 4 hours consecutively from Clemont’s Gym into the Team Flare subplot to abruptly be dumped back to the 8th gym. There were good ideas here, absolutely none of it managed to stick in any cohesive way to me. Their entire mega evolution gimmick hasn’t been seen aside from one fight because I didn’t use the gimmick. There are random trainers who have more difficulty than the actual bosses. I ended up being severely overleveled for everything because of the exp share and then team flare decided to be properly scaled according to my level and I still wiped them because no one in this region has more than one pokemon on average. The friends add nothing to the story outside of Shauna and Calem who has driven me crazy by deciding to bring a psychic type as his lead when majority of the flare fights I had to do with him had dark types. I’m having strong opinions on this because this is the one pokemon game I’ve never experienced at base launch outside of HGSS and I feel some sort of indescribable emotion towards how completely by the numbers the game is and also that there was no Z to correct it. The emotion is frustration.

I arbitrarily added in the no purchasing healing items rule because I was saving up to buy clothes and severely regretted it for the elite four lineup and victory road. Well, I’d like to take back what I said for the 4th-7th gym and X being easy as a whole because I got smoked 5 times in the elite four without healing. Victory road needs to be studied under a microscope because if the entire game had setups like those I could erase the last entry about difficulty. I dont think I’ve experienced the emotional drops I had when steadily seeing my pokemon grow more powerful and that I could’ve had the entire run die had I not risked everything throwing out Talonflame to get diantha’s gardevoir out because it was ko’ing everything I threw at it. I also brought in the starter from the Y save, as a last minute addition to the league. Because there’s a chance that Y Delphox was literally there on the cartridge for a decade since the game’s save was from launch. I had to do it. Sorry Diggersby, maybe for the postgame run I’ll let you be the shining star.

Talonflame has shot up to being one of my favorite regional birds because of how much that bird carried me and the team to victory in those final fights. Fly on, brave bird. what are my thoughts as a whole on X and its plot? It’s got a strong opening but once you get to Clemont’s gym the pace and difficulty get somewhat wonky. If anything, I’d let you as the player fight Lysandere at the pokeball center and the power plant and then get dismissed when telling Sycamore and Diantha instead of the game deciding to throw three boss fights with him in a row. reading Special in between paints a different story on Kalos but I wouldn’t go that far. If anything, there’s actually a very notable and reasonable way to have the player philosophize on if lysandere is right and it’s all those rich people in the battle chateau who are kind of like. Emblematic of the resource Problem Lysandere was talking about. If you want the villain to seem reasonable then you’d need to give actual examples of the problem instead of the guy just worrying about a future issue. They try to solve this with supplementary material like evolutions going more into Lysander but at that point it’s too late.

I guess you can’t have a pokemon game that’s plot is about battling against systematic aristocracy though. I haven’t finished the anime so I have no clue what happens there and if any of my problems are addressed but I feel like it won’t be because I’m starting to suspect that I’m being japed on if the XY anime is good or is it “good” in a way where people are way too invested in seeing Ash Ketchum fufill some kind of power fantasy for them (the amount of Ash betrayal fics and/or shipping fics I’ve needed to filter out that increased during the XY era points to the latter. to say nothing of the initial reaction to Alola Ash.) That’s a future problem. (In reference to the player outfit Supercut) Funnily enough, the outfit that I took in Aquacorde town is the one that let me win the run.

Y Interlude: Bob and George Tax Day, April 15th

Here’s the rule set I’ll be doing when I do start playing the nuzlocke though. As a side note, I won’t be using my postgame Pokemon either once I finish that.
1. Banlist of Pokemon and Legendaries

All Starters minus Greninja, Charizard or Venusaur Talonflame, Diggersby, Meowstic, Aurorus, Florges, Granbull, Pangoro, Aegislash, Hawlucha Because these were the ones I used for this Run and the Postgame.

2. Dupes and Shiny Clause are In unless rule 4 applies 3. Not Hardcore, I’ll use Amie and Exp Share but No Switch Mode. I guess I’ll apply level cap too, idk. 4. I’ll use gift mons only if everyone else dies since the only forced one is the Kanto Starter

I note that my notion notes actually have different start and end dates on the edit so who knows how accurate this really is in the end… I have many opinions on that 4 hour romp I played through the game and a lot of them are uh. Very opinionated. In a kind of rambly incoherent way that isn’t my norm when I play a pokemon game.

Korrina Run: Some of these places have the clothes change every day so I gotta check back always. Never stop the clothes grind. Look, Lucario! You want it, right? No. This is a Kalos only run. I don’t get why the skater girl is the one who has all this successor stuff anyways. What does the skating have to do with it? The only battle I’ve almost lost was a sky battle where everything they had was super effective to my fire Bird. There’s little shadows where the Pokémon swoop FYI.

An actual cave in Kalos! Great. How do I leave. I hate caves and I will break my purchase rule for repels because I hate caves that much. Missed opportunity to just have tierno double battle in the cave rather than just standing there wishing he could be better I don’t need a strat for the gym I have a level 40 talonflame For my X playthrough, I used no Megas because I’m using Kalos only Pokémon. Sort of antithetical to the game itself, but ya know, ya know. I got lost. Where is azure bay. How. There’s a house where there’s a guy who plays the sad theme from BW there I don’t think Calem even leveled his Pokémon in between the tower to now.

Ramos? I don’t get how this gym works. Rope? The New Pokemon Direct was very cool. New legends Kalos! I’ll continue playing the OG. 20 fucking tentacool. Holy shit. The game loves throwing random mons at you for promotional purposes, this would pretty much be one of the easiest games to do another gift run for which I might do when I get to the nuzlocke run It’s at this point I realize I have no clue what I’ve been up to aside from uh. This gym. The journal feature in Diamond and Pearl should’ve been a mainstay. I’m in a gym, so guess I keep going. Grass and he’s got leech seed? Oh no, scary… avalanche.

I can’t wait for the nuzlocke run where I take all of this back. I swear, it’ll probably be funny to take all of this back when I look back. They’re so quick to give the player the boot in these gyms, wasn’t this supposed to be a big deal? Idk. Now that I can fly you know the hunt for new clothes is back on again Thank god the map let’s me know which town has stores or not It might be too late for the whole original team plan, this teams decent enough to probably get me to the end of the game. Then came the hunt for Lumiose stylishness. I cheesed it with premiere ball purchases. I tweeted about it a bit and then when I was finally stylish enough my money depleted. It was gone. Ice soup. Bed making, room service, finding glasses all for like $6000 which is like. 60 USD if my yen conversion is right. Do you still get a bug when saving in Lumiose? I didn’t know so I saved outside of it just in case. I transferred everything up to bank, then decided to move everything Back into my moon save for the ultra sun run which will uh… maybe be a thing. IDK. I have zero priorities in between hacks or my main games. It’s been so long since the last update I had to recall what I was doing and where I was lol Outside of me just grinding in the battle mansion for money, there’s not really much reason to revisit any city minus seeing if they have different clothes but I keep screwing that up because I don’t play every day so Idk how the stock is changing. I feel like Cyllage having the bike is the most pointless addition because I have had no reason to use it.

Oh, there’s Citron. His gimmick in the anime is alright. I haven’t really watched it recently because… 20 episodes in and it hasn’t hooked me. Maybe the pokemon anime isn’t really something i hold interest in because it’s so formulaic outside of the Kanto-Johto seasons. …i haven’t watched those in over a decade. I’ll consider it during the strategy guide run. I think an interesting part of the dev cycle for pokemon is that BW2 and XY are apparently happening at the same time which means that while kalos is facing a fashion crisis every other gym leader globally was at the world tournament like the exclusionism is as bad as when Kanto and Hoenn had radically different types of technology at the same time. The pokemon timeline is a nightmare and an entirely different discussion. Battle chateau is funny. I’m just over here beating up rich people for their money for clothes. This is like the tonal opposite of that trash run I did for emerald. This entire area is kind of like, all these rich people are here flaunting their money and calling themselves the chosen beautiful ones and here comes bumbleclown from nowhere to humiliate them. It’s such a tonal contrast especially since everyone in this place so far is a nepotism baby or a rich old fart who has zero clue what’s going on with pokemon and I’m the person who only has a mother who everyone knows for Rhyhorn racing and nothing else. Like, these people are definitely not training their pokemon. The only guy I support here is the guy who isn’t rich and just wants vengance. Hitting the rank of Countess, I now decide to go actually progress the plot in Lumiose instead of just robbing rich people. It’s at this point I realize that I might just be stuck with these pokemon as my permanent team because all the additions in Kalos are so boring I might as well challenge myself with this Kalos only team. Flare literally has a cafe here and no one questions it. I’m starting to think that some part of the XY manga was right in the are where nobody wants to poke the status quo so the crimes just happen wherever. I mean, I haven’t read volume 2 but from what I remember from the ending literally no one showed up at the parade in the OG release aside from the professor. It’s a quiz gym! Normally I’d probably want to switch to diggersby since it’s ground but uh. I don’t care. It’s who’s that pokemon. I’m beating up children again.

This is the point where in between I give up. I’m over here and Lysandere’s whole fit is a red flag. I’m starting to suspect that Sycamore is hopelessly pining and ignoring every single thing about Lysandere screaming that people are filth and the number of people and pokemon has to be cleansed. No notes! I just breezed past the snow town and the cave without any notes The most notable thing that happened was me evolving my pokemon because i was looking for repels and noted that the shiny stone corresponded Okay green guy, you’ve proven yourself to be somewhat notable. I am so frustrated with the rival in this game for having nothing going on Zero swag, only 4 mons, easily swept These gyms are becoming piss easy, I say, and then bunnelby is on the ground dead What the hell. That was the 7th gym??? The back half of X is infuriating me It’s very funny how the game just goes “uh, the plot. Is happening now.” And I’ve been so miffed by how no one has anything remotely decent that I didn’t even realize I’ve done nearly all the gyms within a time span of like 3 hours since I started at 11 and it’s 1 pm ish now. Everything else will be easy then some random ass drapion will take out half the team by itself by using evasion moves Let me tell you that I did not play pokemon X today with the intention of beating it all in one sitting, the plot kinda just stumbled in this direction where I was like “well, let’s see where this goes” And that’s how I felt from the 4th to 7th gym. Things semi look up once I get to victory road but I have uh. Barely any notes to show for it!

I did this in a period where I just zoomed through this period of the game and wondered if my Pokémon were supposed to already be in their 30s. Game coverage exclusively. In game notes:

(I was complaining about the Kalos roster) I guess XY couldn’t have a big roster because of the fact they had to make every Pokémon in 3D and future proof that We’re doing super training since I can’t get that darn ball in the palace, the grass is in the way. How can you have a library with one book in it. Were Kalos and Unova in the war? Kalos Unova Alola war 3000 years ago? Too bad there’s no BW with megas to make it make sense. Apparently BW2 or it’s mega timeline equivalent takes place at the same time as XY. Oh? So I could walk on the rocks, I just thought they were decoration and went to the other cave. Cave= zubat

It was just a line?! I thought it would be longer and more annoying. The mom counter went up Rhyhorn rides are the prototype to pokerider. It’s a bit slow. Clunky, even. Sky battles are one of the battle gimmicks they had If glittering cave is also a straight line I’ll just be disappointed Boomer voice: it’s not granite cave that’s for sure. Is flash even in this game? It has the same camera thing as Lumiose where it’s a resident evil 3rd person camera What’s shadow claw doing here?! I just noticed there’s no random encounters aside from walking into the shadow circles at the start

Uh oh; team flare! It’s team flare, the most evil Pokémon team for being rich and also French. They’re a complete joke. Team flare is unfortunately very easy to make fun of like galactic and aqua/magma for their motivation being stupid.(up til I learned Aqua/magma was an exaggeration of an event in Japan that was about fishers versus people who lived in the area and wanted to artificially expand an island, but it’s still stupid in terms of Pokémon) In special and the anime, they’re somewhat competent, but I haven’t gotten to that point yet. I’ll spoil something I recall from special. Team flare was made up only of rich and selfish people so lysandere could wipe them all in one sweep. That is never said in game so it’s just like “why is this guy who dislikes greed and jerks making a team of only greedy people and jerks”

Back to the game. Ice is nice, so I took the sail fossil. Too bad amaura gets smacked by everything in the game due to having a 4X weakness, I have never used the dowsing machine/item finder in any game and I likely never will. Finally made it to Cyllege City. The music here is neat sounding. Clothes! Let’s go! Finally, I was starting to go crazy with only two outfits. There’s a cafe you can work at in game but I have yet to find it. Grant the sports guy. Idk how super training works . Ok, having a relicanth is pretty cool but like… how. Aren’t they supposed to be rare. How would a child climb the rock gym, can someone please get protection or something. I know absolutely nothing about grant aside from him being sports oriented. There’s a bit of setup but nothing a good rollout can’t handle. Grant using the two fossils you just got is a neat idea however fairy wind tyrunt. Okay so level 30 was kind of expected since the curve just went up to 40… How has this place not had an osha violation . Benson has become the designated HM friend. Will I be able to beat XY before twitch beats red? Nah, but it’s funny that I picked it up again as soon as they started doing it and now it’s like “I beat grant and they caught Missingno, I’m severely behind.” Gotten to the point where I’m like “it’s probably not a Kalos encounter at all huh.” 1 route only Pokémon runs are fun. Like nuzlockes without the dying aspect. The N route. Route 10: these stones are definitely graves . The funny cat is now a regular cat . Hawlucha is such a fun idea but why is it in Pokémon France. I never got that. Single flare grunt has evolved zubat and nothing else. Eevee is somewhere on route 10 which would be useful if I ever used these stones but I wont .

Did you know? Battle Chateau is pretty much the early game way to farm money. I need those clothes.

No major progress in this one notes wise compared to the next one so it doesn’t get a larger number. Anime and some game coverage, but not enough to warrant calling this 4. Maybe update 6 I’ll go back to reading special again since I made more progress, but with the actual updated chapters instead of the first run. Before I start complaining that the game feels too easy for up to the first badge, I go back to watching the anime for a bit, and this is definitely way out of date because the Pokémon TV project managed to overtake this.





Game Coverage

forgot hordes existed. The biggest challenge I’ve had so far has been a horde of level 5 gulpin because they can all hit. You can go back to regular walking and running with D Pad? You can change Lumiose camera with D pad…? That’s uh. Interesting. Kinda quirky. I’ll change my outfit every save. So it’s back to the default fit since I’m not stylish enough. You do a little hop to switch back to running. Why do you only have one Pokémon, tierno. Corphish isn’t that impressive even if it has swords dance… of course, a guy who only has limited dance moves won’t work well Unless he gets like spinda with teeter dance baton pass or a Pokémon with dragon dance I’m not impressed. What’s the point of a skate park if no one uses it?

I’m not really team building as much as just getting as many XY mons for potential team building here Does trimming the dog change its type? No. It would be pretty interesting if it did though. Camphrier town has one hotel and one man manning the entire thing. Help him. So the castle is empty, apparently snorlax is an important kalosian figure, and Shauna is back. Mega evolution being the big thing is very funny in this run because 1. I have boxed squirtle and will do the same to lucario. 2. No kalos pokemon can mega evolve and im only using kalos pokemon for X. Y is a nuzlocke so it’s different. Also funny for them to make an entire castle and have nothing of worth in it. I went the wrong way and now im doing unpaid Berry labor.

Did you know? Zygarde never got a game but there’s data left over for Pokémon Z in sun and moon. Guess it took a vacation.

Feb 16th

I’ve been sitting on these notes for so long that they’re outdated and I’ve actually just gotten Grant’s badge, so im going to fix that currently. Something I failed to mention was the first battle for X. Well, it was kinda just a standard pokemon battle. Not much to say about it. I’m sure it must’ve been far crazier back then when the next thing was a leap from BW2 to this but my game before this was sun and moon. I’m not impressed, and that’s because I’m missing the context.

Current Game Notes: I’ve provided a list of questions alongside notes that will probably not be answered as I take observations from the starting town to the first badge town. I saw a meme about the rival and now this question keeps coming up. Is the rival a nepotism baby? Am I a nepotism baby? Are the friends just walking tutorials? I know how a Pokémon center works In red they just dumped your child ass into the game with a manual How do I make money for clothes shopping? The great mystery of Kalos. I need to know. I have to try everything. There’s a cafe but I can’t buy anything? I’m not 100% the Pokémon but I will the clothes if possible. Please learn a flying type move — me with this level 9 fletchling Like, peck would be good, I think.

Litleo would be the easy solution to a bug gym but it’s quite boring looking so I don’t want to use it. Imagine if Kalos had reigonal Pokémon divergences like alola added in Having no exp share at the start is weird The mom count went up again thanks to this random girl standing on route 22 A lot of these trainers already have like level 9 Pokémon, that’s a bit strange I suppose I guess the level curve goes down after? Considering the skates never return… bikes. I’m being too judgemental of a low level common mon but bunnelby kind of sucks because it keeps getting outsped and dying whereas chespin and fletchling are thriving. However, I do need a third mon for Amie so it can stay for now. I went to Serebii and the boys selection of clothes is appalling, but thankfully that makes the purchasing 100% thing far easier on that side. So uh. I have no clue how to get money in the game. Future problem for future post gym me even though im playing semi- daily at snail’s pace. Eventually im just gonna have a free day and accidentally breeze through the entire game

And then I hit the first gym. I guess a bubble puzzle is pretty interesting but like… how do they get out? Chespin is literally weak to bug types and is doing a better job (in reference to bunnelby) Who is building all these fountains that you can’t even take photos of? I had to use my tablet to even attempt to capture the feeling of it, and that’s probably how I’m going to do the rest of the game too. Route 4’s maze thing seems interesting right up til you realize you don’t actually have to interact with anything in it aside from items Oh, hey, I heard the gate theme from that one project voltage video, cool.

I think for what was likely the first 3DS pokemon game for a lot of people it was a good move to have in all of these more familiar mons but at the same time it makes the game feel unremarkable because the whole early game feels like “you like Kanto and Johto, right? Please say yes.” How is there a blackout I see the lights on There’s barely any pokemon from the actual reigon I’m in so far. Also, no night themes. I need money for clothes but I’m not stylish enough. Sucks for me.

Back to the Games: So, the very first pokemon I ever see in the wild… its a pidgey. at the very least im glad they didn’t force a tutorial on me first thing. But… does route 2 have any kalos exclusives? Time to grind and see. I saw two! Santalune’s layout is literally just viridian. Now comes the problem of “what Pokémon will i catch that I won’t be allowed to use in my Y nuzlocke run?” Fletchling is very good, but I think it’s also the only flying type for Kalos. No, there is also… the victory road dragon There is also uh… the wrestling bird Maybe I should worry about that later.

This town (the one where you get the starter Pokemon) bothers me because it’s non conventional. They have a center, but they don’t have a PC. They sell balls and potions separately. There’s nothing to this place aside from that one quirk. I’m here thinking if I should buy potions or not because I need money to buy clothes later on lol Santalune forest has two things: Shauna is here to heal you, and the layout itself is viridian forest, and a song that loops for a good 20 seconds and then gets quiet afterwards. Moving on. I’d take a monkey but I’m not allowed to. I’m so sorry, monkey, I said kalos mons only and you are generation five so you must be deleted. Realizing an issue of “I can’t take all the mons from the very start of the game as my gen 6 team, can I…” Like, is scatterbug good? Probably not. Why is caterpie here too. There’s already three bug types. It’s kinda crazy Shauna is here just to be a pokemon center like I couldn’t just walk out or buy more potions. I could not use her but i don’t want to just ditch her

Once again there are no kalos pokemon outside of the three I’ve already seen This distribution is woefully unbalanced as I look on serebii just to see that they really have a lot of very thing here a hack that only has kalos mons valuable would make this region very sparse.i stopped looking, but im already imagining there’s a route that has no kalos mons at all I remembered the yarn game from Amie when I played ORAS and I’ve still got it, I got like 300 point on my first run I’m unceremoniously stopping in route 3 because I’m beating up children for their money and 3 is where I will continue… well, not sequentially. It’d be a bit much to do only XY stuff like, every day. That’s excessive.

December 23 Single-handedly probably the strangest purchase I’ve made this year in regards to games, a used copy of Pokémon Y from a game store. No, I don’t know why I did it. I couldn’t even get proper photos because my SD card ran out of room. The person who had the game only bought one outfit and proceeded to use it for the rest of the game. They didn’t beat it with their Kalos starter. It’s probably been in the store since 2014. Who were you, Hengel. Doesn’t matter now though, eventually I’ll delete this save.

Jan 3- Prelude to XY Pokelog: the XY chronicles At some point I lose track of the number on the XY log.

Chronicling all of Pokémon XY and it’s multimedia to see if anything was worthwhile out of the generational cycle as my big project of the year in regards to pokemon. Overview:

The… anime?: So I watched a part of it dubbed, decided not to, so I’m watching it subbed (please make official subs real TPCi or TV Tokyo or whoever is in charge of distribution. I cannot sit through the dub versions of the music unless it’s the 4Kids version I’m sorry I’m nostalgia biased but they can’t keep replacing route themes I cannot do that) Anime length: 140 episodes plus the four mega evolution specials plus the 3 movies is a lot of time to invest into this but whatever, I have free time

I wanted to do spinoffs but then I looked at what counted as gen 6 spinoffs.: I just went “wait, that’s too much work, and I really don’t want to play these spin-offs and juggle the other stuff too.” No Rumble World since thats just an F2P game (its so weird it outlived the mobile game which had gen 7).Super Mystery Dungeon (I might do this one, depends on how I feel/How fast I get certain things done) Detective Pikachu (I’m not doing that.) Jan 12- 1st Update? Pokelog (XY) Log-1: Everyone wants to hang out with my cool mom:
I had this one saved from yesterday so I’m posting it today. Tomorrow I’ll post what I had for day 2 (which would’ve been today, but it’s tomorrow now.) The power of the 1st campaign, a copy of Pokémon X! (I wish there was a Z...) I literally bought Y but I kept getting put off by the guy whose save file was there like it was haunting the cartridge or something. I’d post a photo of my player character but the photo guy isn’t here yet. I don’t pay attention to YouTubers so I have no clue what the general consensus on XY is outside of my friend circle saying “it was okay.” Also, I was literally 12 years old when the games came out, so there’s no way I’m gonna remember what the hell I was up to a decade ago but it probably wasn’t pokemon X. It was likely Black 2, that one was pretty good. My father recalled that finding a 3DS was apparently difficult as shit back then and also expensive as hell. I’ll believe that. XY’s largest impacts were jumping Pokémon to 3D (with repercussions) and the fairy type (which has been pretty positive). The anime coverage of XY caused multiple people to lose their minds and I think it’s Ash ketchums fault, something about his greninja. I see it in my dreams sometimes. No one has anything to say about my character between the first town and the routes, everyone just wants to talk to my mom. She’s the famous one. Even this random girl wants to say hi to my mom. I’m like 70% guessing Shauna is an orphan because there’s only 3 houses in Vaniville town and two of them are reserved for the player character and the rival. Im in the town where I get the starters and I’m incredibly confused to it all. Why is there a turf war between the pokeball and potion mart. What happened. Where is Phil. When do I get to take photos. log 2 will hopefully have me less confused on it all.
