Day 2: Well I technically played an hour til midnight the day before so… The clock struck midnight and shinx evolved thanks to that double battle Why do I have a Jirachi by talking to some random old guy Idk Save data bonus? The strip to veilstone has not been memorable aside from moss getting his third Evo I think it’s wild how I haven’t done anything particularly grind worthy and the game exp bonus curve is just that absurd to get me to the 30s Something weird is going on and none of the joggers are fighting me, so maybe they’re time based. They’re selling TMs for cheap here bruh The Subaru solo saga I am using the resources the game gave me, but I feel like even without the mystic this game is not giving me much trouble The only issue I’ve been having is feeling fatigue but that is a side effect of essentially speedrunning in play sessions that take place in chunks throughout the day The lucario drain punch got Subaru but an earthquake from Moss proved to be a bit too much Unlike sword, where I actively used raids to break through the games difficulty, the game is sort of passively becoming easier due to the friendship bonus being tied to walking. Day 3: Am I having fun with this game No Would I be having fun if not for the self imposed deadline Also no I feel like I’d get more enjoyment out of regular sinnoh w/ speed up mods for the health bars or platinum but here’s the thing. Platinum costs hundreds if you want to play original hardware I was kind of expecting most remakes to go with like the ORAS treatment since that was the latest normal one or at the very least let’s go where they have like a pseudo sort of remake going on with new additional features versus… BDSP. At least have the models not be chibi, feels like a waste the only time I properly see my character rendered in their nice outfit is on the battlefield which is the most boring part Environments shouldn’t still be abstract like is it hard to make a building associated background or something At least some of the music is nice but other times it sounds like a MIDI with the sword instunebrs slapped on top which it IS Okay, so at the resturaunt Of those two trainers in the back If their dad owns the place… then… They have two dads. Math. Day 4: Forgot about Pokemon mansion You know since this whole route can be skipped with fly this place could be skipped The night playing means the pos are out I forgot about the galactic guy Dude my rival still has a starly I might be a tad bit overleveled Me with a level 38 luxray: I might…?! Day 5: It’s warping time! One small kid tears through a building with their magic animals to stop an eco terrorist group because their boss wants to rewrite reality Average JRPG plot escalation tbh The unescorted unauthorized and unsettling tour Using beachcomber with amulet coin to really ruin the grunt’s days Cyrus’s theme mix is a ok Never really thought about how screwed some guys get when a lot of them have flying mons and I’m packing an ice beam Really taking some of the gravity away with the chibi models here They got mt. Coronet summit good as well Bro showed up then said “im outta here!” Funny to imagine how volkner is still in his gym with the blackout while im out here with my mons about to fight a deity After I charge my console a bit and rest I’ve done a lot in a few hours huh… Free exp by slaying a deity with a fluffy cloud birb That was so anticlimactic it died to 3 moinblasts Route skipped I skipped the last Route. I don’t think the exp loss will matter in the slightest It’s so weird that Jasmine is the only character out of all the characters in BDSP to get a redesign The type distribution in sinnoh OG being lopsided for fire and electric and those guys being friends has to be a dev joke or something The reason volkner is bored because his type diversity is nonexistent Volkner watching me mess up his puzzle because I couldn’t for the life of me figure out the last bit Subaru kill this man If my pokemon can dodge via shouts im ash ketchuming up here STOP VOLT SWITCHING He’s doing on purpose to piss me off He will never be Elesa Emolga The octillery is solely to handle the people who probably spam ground types It still manages to make ME mad though I should’ve expected an ice fang tbh but I wasn’t expecting the 1 HP save Thanks friendship mechs for being busted Why does his raichu know surf I’m actually struggling for a battle here Id like to thank the random bibarel that shows up to help me out for no price for hms Badge count 8/8
Day 6: A bit of a wrapping up before I move onto the victory road and league There’s an interesting dichotomy to video game remakes or remasters that doesn’t show up in other spheres of entertainment like music or movies. In those spheres, the originals are allowed to coexist, while for games people are outright expected to treat the remake as a replacement for the original. This can be felt all the way back in OG RGBY to FRLG’s remake where FRLG was as much of a retread of OG Kanto as possible, even down to limiting the post Kanto evolutions until post game. It sucked if you wanted to use the not Kanto stuff early because the game really didn’t want that. The art style was different from the OG, the music changed, and the vibes as a whole were different. But people still had their nostalgia for OG Kanto and it was allowed to exist alongside the new edition allowing for people’s imaginations to still be filled with the wonder of the original when playing virtual console. I’m not sure what the hell BDSP is trying to do in terms of the remake replacement paradox because id take the OG any day. Because it sort of fails to be a full on remaster due to lacking the platinum additions. Some of the QOL features I enjoy are also hampered because BDSP is so strictly following the original that its difficulty for the main story is completely busted because of failing to account for the QOL from the friendship bonus. I know there’s rematches that boost the difficulty, but like, I don’t think I’m going to make it all the way to that area and quite frankly I don’t really want to. Like by all accounts minus a few minor things like costume changes and a few track changes and the TV changes and the HM Poketch thing I’d rather play the original. Tbh I was worried I’d need to return the game earlier than expected because sometimes they give out little notifications that someone also wants to check out the thing if it’s popular but this might be like the most unpopular Pokemon switch game Verdict: I think sword has been dethroned for my most mid Pokemon experience because at least that was something NEW over “what if we remade the game you liked but without any of the charm that made it enjoyable” Nostalgia plays a heavy part in this world but simultaneously so does the imagination and seeing everything rendered in the style that was full of limitations only shows said limits far more when there’s been examples for years and even on the same console of what the standards of Pokemon remakes were like and expected. Somehow we got the most backwards product as a result where nothing aside from the new battling system and a handful of things were improved upon. The parts I had the most fun with were the parts where the game actually felt difficult for a brief moment before turning back into being dull and I wish those moments stayed consistent. Literally just channeling the spirit of Volkner I guess. Wasn’t a big fan of the art style choices. I didn’t like the grand underground statue system replacing the OG underground. I didn’t like the exp friendship bonus being tied to walking meaning I couldn’t opt out and it made the game hand holdey until the very last few fights. I didn’t like that following Pokemon has been tied to base speed when it was perfect in HGSS and how many times they get recalled to follow. I didn’t like some of the remixes. I feel like the switch era is going to be looked at as the most mixed pokemon era.

Petit Pearl

Pokemon petit pearl engine is at ludicrous speed I feel like I’m at Mach 50 with cartoon noises with the way I ZOOM across maps i really said Hmmm, something is wrong, why are they hauling ass My OG sinnoh playthrough from 2015 in shambles though My current plan is a sinnoh only team but I can’t find the starters at their designated location on the encounter doc and I’m getting a bit annoyed lol Starters Shinx? Starly If no starter, Budew? No starters Pissing me off A pickup Mon will be useful My bunneary has klutz This team is in shambles, Gible? Riolu? Snover? Bronzong? Restoring a long dead Save

Basically the Pokémon games I tend to replay most often are non intrusive ones and most other gens have some point that makes them stick out. Like I enjoyed Unova, but the Pokémon having such high level evolutions for some makes them unusable especially in late game, forget doing a randomizer or anything.

And I also remember liking Alola, but it could really do with a skip cutscene button for replays (All Pokémon games minus the GB-GBA ones have this problem though.)

I don’t think I’ve ever replayed gen 4 much because I think of uh… the snow route, and that one part where you have to use like all the HMs, and there’s so many other things I could be doing with my time.

Out of all the games so far, it’s probably Kanto, Hoenn, and Unova (Game 1) that I replay the most because they’re the ones that don’t have any long sections that make me put the game down (minus hoenn’s water routes— how is there not a mod that disables surf music yet so I don’t have to hear that on loop through all the routes) I do recall bits of the gen 4 anime, that was fun. Like the episode where team rocket almost quit over ramen. Dawn was a neat character, it’s easy to see why she became so popular (to the point Lucas is borderline nonexistent in fanart). She was always saying “no need to worry” but then shit would blow up in the background. Mood.

When you’re unsure you saved so you save twice just to make sure it went through

Reviving a long dead svs Last time on diamond, well, it didn’t work, so my hall of fame was forever placed on hiatus But now, I gusss it’s a miracle, it works again, so I backed up my save, made a dupe for the 3Ds, and now it’s time to basically mess around until I get to Cynthia or start figuring out how to tweak Either or Not knowing where the shiny stone is, I go to search for that first. To serebii! So somewhere in iron island, a place I completely ignored aside from beelining to get riolu to the point there’s trainers I haven’t fought yet. I kind of miss that feeling when playing sword of some dungeon that wasn’t necessary but still had a little reward if you went there like battles and some exp. a lot of later stuff in the 3ds era started getting a bit handholdy Graveler. Ónix. Occasional Golbat. This place would be great for grinding if diamond didn’t notoriously have the slowest engine What the heck Why is there a wild steelix They’ve just got trade Evos chilling here?
